A 500mw Laser Pointer Green shone into the eyes

The Laser Pointer is ubiquitous is so many of today's traffic applications - think of over-height lorry/truck detectors (bridges and underpasses), traffic light operation, surveying, speed traps, etc. Lasers are also used for (GCHQ proof) limited range secure communications, laser marking for bombs and shells, tagging employees and soldiers (infra-red personal beacons), friend or foe ID, etc. D-I-Y enthusiasts can buy economic measuring devices using lasers and the construction industry uses them in level markers (red lines) fir dry wall, plumbing and electrical lighting.
I remember a spate of 'laser pointer attacks' on drivers in the late 90s resulting in arrests, so I guess would fall under the same law wouldn't it?Obviously, laser technology is much more accurate and more dangerous than a rock.A 500mw Laser Pointer Green shone into the eyes of a person driving a car would also be dangerous , and probably classed as an assault , so i think would an "attack" on a driverless car .
he human driver would just be distracted by the sudden Green Laser Pointer 3000mw light - which anyway happens quite often on the road, as the sun reflects off moving metal and glass surfaces, so experienced drivers know better than to panick because of any sudden flash, least of all by swerving.
In short, while shining a 10000mW 532nm green laser pointer into a human driver's eyes is obviously dangerous (and has caused a few accidents in the past) this is hardly the same thing as the proposed hack. A correct analogy would involve a human driver (somehow) seeing an utterly convincing hallucination.
Lidar sensors, a much later addition to the use of infra-red equipment, should (and can) be modified so that their signals are uniquely identified - Google and company can get Cat Chasing Laser Pointer from the amateur robotic enthusiasts.

It's more amazing how cif posters think that that they are smarter than Google designers, who have designed and built automated cars that have successfully driven over a million miles on open roads without causing an accident.
